Developing Space Culture

As we prepare to do business in space and settle in various locations, we will naturally find that space is a very different place for human activity. A number of issues will develop concerning everyday life, how communities evolve, and how business and careers progress. 1000 Planets believes it is a good idea to begin thinking about and addressing these issues now.

Below is a brief outline of the issues to be considered. 1000 Planets will call upon a wide range of expertise and creativity to address these issues. Experiments can be established and studied here on Earth to tests our ideas and plans. This can help ensure success when other technological challenges are solved and we are ready to "move in."

Living in Space

Daily life will be very different in space. How will we adjust to different gravity levels? Will we want the same types of entertainment as here on Earth? What will new hygiene requirements be like? Is there a psychological impact from spending long hours in a space suit with only limited and indirect human contact?

Working in Space

Just living in space could be an overwhelming burden in many situations. Will we be able to succeed in efforts to do productive work? What will be a standard "work week?"

Building Communities in Space

Space environments may have a lot in common with small town life of a century ago, as far as size and isolation. How do we prepare for small town life in a high tech adventure? How will the first child be conceived and born in space?

Doing Business in Space

Lawyers, accountants, bankers, insurance agents . . . wouldn't it be nice if these could be left behind? Perhaps as we contemplate living in space, we will find improvements for life here on Earth.
